Carpe eDatum and Extremity Imaging Partners Team-Up on Project

Austin, Texas based Carpe eDatum, Inc. (CeD) announced today that it has teamed-up with Pittsburgh, PA based Extremity Imaging Partners (EIP) on a digital project.  The team is providing Austin’s Southwest Orthopaedic Group (SWOG) all the ingredients for secure web based diagnostics and distribution of extremity MRI scans.

CeD has supplied a Lunar E-Scan open extremity MRI scanner that EIP installed and will service.  Additionally, CeD is installing Vamstec’s robust web based Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) called ISSAÔ.  The systems will be configured and interface on the SWOG Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM) network at the new Austin Surgical Hospital (ASH) facility.

According to senior partner Dr. Nicholas Tsourmas, “SWOG doctors plan to operate in a filmless digital environment utilizing all the unique elements of Vamstec’s ISSA Anywhere.”  The Vamstec system is unique in that it contains integrated elements of a Radiology Information System (RIS) like scheduling, dictation and transcription in addition to PACS.  Additionally, Dr. Tsourmas said,  “…we will utilize digital measurement tools and an extremely useful digital implant templating feature, enhancing preoperative planning.”  “In a film environment, we have been limited to the use of overlay acetate templates, goniometers and grease pencils to do our preoperative planning.”  Exams and related tasks will be available through secure web access by remote diagnosticians, transcriptionists, referring physicians and second opinion doctors anywhere in the world.

The doctors begin practicing in their new digital environment on Monday, December 15, 2003.
