Carpe eDatum and IMS to Provide PACS Backbone to N Rio Grande Valley’s
First All Digital Hospital
Austin, Texas based Carpe eDatum, Inc. (CeD) and partner International Medical Supply, Inc. (IMS) of Edinburg, Texas announced today that they signed an agreement to provide the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) backbone to the soon to be completed Doctors Hospital at Renaissance of McAllen, Texas. According to Gary Mermelstein and Bill Carlson, the respective company presidents, Doctors Hospital is the first of its type in the N Rio Grande Valley and the robust PACS will facilitate archiving and distribution of all medical images and associated diagnostic reports.
CeD and IMS will be installing the PACS from Vamstec, d.o.o. of Zagreb, Croatia on a cat. 6 network, capable of speeds up to 1 GHz. The companies will install all of the modules available from Vamstec, enabling a totally embedded system to include scheduling, image capture, diagnostic review, dictation, transcription and web based image and report distribution. Unlike most other installed systems, the elements of the radiology information system (RIS) are tightly embedded with code written by the same company, Vamstec. As such, integration issues, compromises and other problems commonly encountered with integration of unlike systems are eliminated.
The companies will also be providing input and output devices from Kodak Health Imaging of Rochester, NY. Kodak’s DirectView computed radiography (CR), LS85 5K film digitizer and DryView 8700 Laser Imager will be strategically placed on the high speed network to optimize radiology workflow.
According to Bob Pourgol, Director of Radiology, “Doctors Hospital at Renaissance is a physician owned short-stay facility and the second phase of a state of the art medical complex. The hospital will adjoin the existing day surgery center.” Bob goes on to say…”the diagnostics our radiology department will be providing the medical community and patients will be unparalleled in the Valley and will rival the capabilities of larger city hospitals and university hospitals. We reviewed many systems…the competition was intense. After several months of analysis, we settled on the Vamstec system from CeD and IMS.” The system will acquire, archive and distribute computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance procedures (MR), digital mammography, digital radiography (DR), computed radiography (CR), nuclear medicine, ultrasound (US), live video capture from endoscopy labs and intraoperative digital images from operating rooms. The system also provides surgeons with digital tools to assist in preoperative planning. The system will provide storage capacity up to several terabytes and will likely store cath. lab images from future planned heart hospital expansion.
Doctors Hospital at Renaissance is currently under construction and will open its doors to patients later this year.
