New Shipmate iCRco Joins Carpe eDatum and Ship-Rad
Aboard Holland America's ms Zaandam

Austin, Texas based Carpe eDatum, Inc. (CeD) and partner Ship-Rad Services of Vancouver, B.C. have installed another Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Computed Radiography (CR) device in the infirmary aboard the ms Zaandam. The Zaandam is part of Holland America’s (HAL) existing fleet that was retrofitted to convert from analog to digital x-ray. Prior to the Zaandam, all installations were new ship builds that integrated digital during construction phase. The companies and HAL have chosen to use iCRco’s product because of its True Flat Scan Path™ technology, reliability and simplicity, a must for remote applications such as cruise ships. The iCRco product is rapidly gaining popularity as a compact CR solution. Like her sister vessels, the Amsterdam, Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam, the companies continue to utilize Vamstec’s robust Issa PACS system to acquire, store and communicate digital x-ray images via satellite link to the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas. UTMB radiologists will interpret and return their findings back to the ship’s doctor through the same satellite link.

As the first HAL ship to be retrofitted to digital x-ray, the ms Zaandam signals HAL’s desire and intent to provide passengers aboard all its ships state of the art CR and immediate access to mainland specialist consultations. The Zaandam set sail for Alaska with its new digital system on Saturday, July 8th.
