Carpe
eDatum and eScan Strike Agreement
UTMB
and Dr. Tamina Blais to Read
Carpe
eDatum, Inc. announced today that it has entered into an agreement to license
and install Vamstec's, Clinical Image Management System (CIMS) at eScan Imaging,
a Health Matrix Corporation company. As part of the Agreement, eScan plans to
acquire images from its MRI modalities at 2 centers in Austin and 1 in San
Antonio, archive the data on a central server and allow their referring
customers secure access to images and reports via the internet.
Under
separate agreements, Carpe eDatum has arranged for eScan exams to be
electronically transmitted to the University of Texas Medical Branch radiology
department in Galveston and to Dr. Tamina Blais in Austin who will read remote
from the eScan facilities. Renowned
radiologists from UTMB and Dr. Blais who specializes in orthopedic radiology
will read from ISSA Diagnostic Viewers, dictate results directly into the
application and a remote typist will transcribe the results.
The digital process provided by Carpe eDatum will improve efficiencies,
ensure security and patient privacy, reduce costs and facilitate same day
results through the web for referring eScan customers.
STAT exams could be made available in less than one hour.
"The
current process, (not unlike competitive imaging centers), is cumbersome and
inefficient utilizing film, paper reports and couriers", according to eScan
President and Founder, John Williams. Williams
goes on to say: "We intend to exceed our customers' expectations with the
CIMS from Carpe eDatum and Vamstec, delivering quality results from our reading
radiologists in an utmost expedient manner.
Without the CIMS, it would be virtually impossible to provide our
referring physicians and their patients the diagnostic expertise that will be
provided by UTMB staff radiologists and Dr. Blais."
“Most
MRI’s in Austin are read by radiologists who have many other imaging
modalities to cover, and no specialized skills.
eScan is ensuring that its orthopedic studies will be evaluated by an
expert whose practice is limited to the interpretation of orthopedic MRI”,
according to Dr. Blais.
Carpe
eDatum announced in July 2001 that it had obtained exclusive distribution rights
for Vamstec in North America. In
November 2001 Carpe announced that it entered into an agreement to license and
install Vamstec's CIMS in the UTMB Pathology Department in Galveston.
Vamstec
originally developed the software as a telepathology application that evolved to
address virtually all DICOM, non-DICOM, moving or still medical images. As part
of the UTMB agreement, the pathology department agreed to provide practical
input to Carpe eDatum and Vamstec that will assist in their development of a new
pathology specific application.
